This forces some women to employ means to mold their nature's gifts to their advantage. According to the American Society of Plastic Surgeons, breast augmentation is the third most commonly performed cosmetic surgical procedure in the US. In 2005 alone, there were about three hundred thousand boob jobs performed by plastic surgeons (1).

Implants

Breast augmentation, also called breast enhancement, is generally required by those whose breasts lose volume and shape due to weight loss, childbirth or aging. However, today it has become a fashion to go in for a good boob job in order to achieve a fuller bust line, much on the lines of celebrity boob jobs (2).

The use of implants for enhancing the bust line was first introduced in 1865 and the earliest known implant was performed in Germany, in which fat from a benign fatty tumor was removed from a woman's back and implanted in her breast (1). Afterwards, various materials for implants were experimented with.

Types of implants

Generally, two types of breast implant filler materials, with many different shapes and textures, are available. One is saline implant, which is a silicone rubber shell filled with sterile saline liquid. The other is silicone gel implant, in which the silicone shell is filled with a viscous silicone gel. The latter is used in approximately ninety percent of the implant operations (1).

Technique

The breasts are enlarged by inserting saline-filled or silicone gel implant. For this, an incision of less than an inch is made underneath the breast. The incision can also be around the lower edge of the areola, the pigmented skin surrounding the nipple. It may also be within the armpit.

Once the incision is made, the surgeon creates a pocket into which the implant is inserted. This pocket is made either directly behind the breast tissue or underneath the pectoral muscle, located between the breast tissue and chest wall (2). Obviously, for a big boob job or huge boob job the ccs need to be higher!  Although, the size and shape of your breasts remain a personal choice, for youngsters wanting teen boob jobs, it's the celebs that lead the way.

So, you generally find them approaching their plastic surgeons requesting a Jessica Simpson boob job, Lindsay Lohan boob job, Paris Hilton boob job, Tara Reid boob job, and the like! Today, public has become more open about discussing breast augmentation surgery for aesthetic alterations.

The downside of boob jobs

It's not only the cost of boob job that is the deterrent; it's also the risk of medical problems that may afflict those who've gone under the knife. All surgical procedures carry some risks and the complications that may arise in bad boob jobs, include reactions to anesthesia, blood accumulation and infection. Breast implants can also hinder in reading mammograms.

However, according to a recent survey, thirteen percent of women needed to get operated again for a boob job gone bad, whereas ninety-two percent chose to have an implant replacement to change the size of the boobs (2). Although, breast augmentation complication may occasionally result from ruptured implants, causing local discomfort and disfigurement, there is no evidence that they cause more serious illnesses (3). However, some may encounter cysts, sores and painful hardening of the breasts (1).

So, if you want to enhance your figure and self-confidence go right in for a nice boob job. For this, consult a reputed plastic surgeon on sizes and options. But remember boob jobs are not permanent and don’t last forever.
